Prevention is better than a cure…

Seasonal Health 25 September 2017

In early autumn, it’s vital to be in good health before the winter arrives.

With this objective in mind, preventing any weakness in the body is key.

There are very simple measures you can put in place. It’s sufficient to use a versatile plant, rich in vitamins, minerals, flavonoids… considered to be a “natural tonic”.

Daily consumption of its juice or syrup will allow you to retain a good metabolic and psychological balance: the fruit of the sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) will significantly protect your health and beauty.

In the past, horses that ate this plant would see an increase in muscle mass and have a beautiful, shiny coat. For a long time, Tibetan medicine has recognised its strengthening effect (among others…).

Part of the Elaeagnaceae plant family, this thorny shrub, located mainly in the Alps or the Himalayas, produces small orange berries.

After harvesting, they are cold pressed and then the juice is separated from the pulp and pasteurised at 80°C. The juice is consumed pure or as a syrup diluted to 40% with cane sugar and honey. It’s suitable for the whole family: adults, children and toddlers as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The juice contains a vitamin complex made up of beta-Carotene (provitamin A), B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12), vitamin C (0.5g to 3g/kg and sometimes 5g/kg of fruit) and vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol). It helps to combat oxidative stress, protect ageing cells (the skin, skin appendages and internal organs) and provides a refreshing, immunostimulating and anti-asthenic effect (burnout, convalescence).

Flavonoids with anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and vascular protective actions as well as trace elements (Zn, Cu, Co, Fe, Mg, Ca, K) enhance the aforementioned properties.

Taking one to three tablespoons of sea buckthorn syrup* per day is an excellent way of taking care of the whole body. This dose covers the full daily vitamin C requirement (ascorbic acid). The efficacy gradually increases after the first three weeks. It reaches its peak at three to six months.

*The syrup contains honey and cane sugar. The juice, without added sugar, tastes very acidic. You are advised to dilute it in a little water or mix it with yoghurt.

If a little fatigue or stress is already starting to set in, don’t hesitate to combine it with one of the following plants in the doses listed in the table below.
